Juan Genoves 
Born in Valencia, Spain, in 1930

Trained at the Valencia Art College Genovés was always an inquiring painter, concerned both with the need to renovate Spanish art and also with the function of art and the artist in society. His firm conviction that art was transforming, and his concern for his environment lead him to join several important movements in the post war Spanish art scene: Los Siete (The Seven) 1949, Parpallós (1956) and Hondo (1960). It was in this last group that presented a new approach to figurative painting opposing Informalism, that Genovés developed a style of painting that was expressionist and provocative. (source)

Spanish painter (Albacete, 1894 - Madrid, 1980)

He was creator of the School of Vallecas next to the sculptor Alberto Sánchez. Palencia was one of the artists who performed the landscape poetry developed by the Generation of '98, a group of novelists, poets, essayists, and philosophers active in Spain at the time of the Spanish-American War (1898).

El Greco: 400th anniversary of the painter's death

The Fundación El Greco has organized today 7th April a Requiem Mass in Latin to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Spanish painter's, sculptor's and architect's death (1541 – 7 April 1614) in the Cathedral of Toledo (Spain).

The officers of the solemn Mass will perform XVII vestments and the archbishop will wear black chasuble according to the traditional ecclesiastical dress code.

Altamira cave paintings to be opened today!

After 12 years of closing doors a small group of five have been allowed into the cave today. For a decade tourist wondering to enjoy the prehistoric painting have had to visit a replica within next door Museum.

Also known as the Sistine Chapel of Paleolithic Art the cave will experiment weather the black and red paintings on the limestone walls will be able to support the CO2 levels during the visit of the small groups.
