FAW "The Fashion & Art Weekend": London Week influenced by Art

Welcome back to The Fashion and Art Weekend, the section in which we investigate about the relationship between Fashion and Art.

This NEW section is directed and written by Silvia Moya , an expert fashion blogger, in exclusivity for Welldone Publishers: Art Prints & Greeting Cards Worldwide.

London Fashion Week influenced by Art by Silvia Moya

Let's analyze another Sping/Summer 2015 Fashion Week and the inspiration in art as we did last week. Our suggestion for today is the recent London Fashion Week:

The concrete art and the Neo-Concretism are artistic movements usually identified with Brazil.

One of the most representative artist of this movement is Lygia Pape (1927-2004), known for her geometric and dynamic work. She experimented with painting, printmaking, sculpture, dancing and film maker giving us also an unforgettable collection of performances and installations.

Paying tribute to her compatriot, the Brazilian designer Barbara Casasola has shown a selection of metallic creations inspired with the luminous artwork of the artist.

Marianne North (1830-1890) the artist whose artworks are botanic recreations and who traveled around the world drawing different vegetables, flowers and plants has been the inspiration for the firm Erdem.

Her work was preciously valued but also was highly respected by the Scientist community because during her productive years photography was unusual and her paintings were helpful to explore the nature of the countries where she used to travel.

For the Spring/Summer collection 2015, Erdem investigated through Marianne North's creations to print her paintings over Erdem's designs but also felt inspired  to decorate the stage with them.

Nature also seems to be the starting point, or at least the inspiration for the designer Giles in his Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

Giles focuses on the artwork of Walton Ford (1960), well known illustrator by his flora and fauna paintings that exudes some fun in each of his works seeming authentic travel guides.

The Californian artist Alia Penner, famous for her naïf aesthetic wildflowers drawings, has been commissioned to draw the walls of Orla Kiely's parade

Flowers have been the main theme in both clothing and accessories.

As expected, Rocksanda's Spring / Summer 2015 collection is inspired by an artist: Julia Dault (1977).

Born in Toronto but resident in Brooklyn (NY) Julia's work focuses on the plexiglass and the curves produced by this material.

The photographer Georges Rousse was commissioned to transform the space of Thomas Tait's collection. Rousse has a particular conception of space and usually works with abandoned places such hospitals, parkings or industrial buildings.

In this case, the reference to art comes from the space designed for the presentation but it fits perfectly with the palette shown as well as with some of the asymmetrical shapes of the designs.

Japanese art  was present at the London Fashion Week, in particular in catwalk of Temperley London.

The British brand was inspired by Shunga (japanese spring images) to print this technique as the main collection. Shunga are as famous as the collectors who have more prints: like Pablo Picasso and Gustav Klimt. They usually perform sexual scenes.
