FAW "The Fashion & Art Weekend": René Magritte spotted by Opening Ceremony

Welcome back to a new FAW, the section in which we investigate about the relationship between Fashion and Art. The articles are written and directed by Silvia Moya , an expert fashion blogger, in exclusivity for Welldone Publishers.

As we advised you few days ago, this section will share space with the during the pre - Christmas period and it will be delivered fortnight.

If you would like to know more about this section and to enjoy reading both English and Spanish the latest articles please click on the links below

René Magritte spotted by Opening Ceremony by Silvia Moya

René Magritte (Lessines - Belgium, 1898 - Brussels, 1967) is one of the most important painters of the Surrealism (do you remember when we spoke about another key figure in this movement: Salvador Dalí & Elsa Schiaparelli: The surreal couple?).

Magritte's main feature is to link bizarre elements with foolish scenes with the intention of not having an implicit meaning to be decrypted.

Among its most recognized masterpieces are The Lovers (1928), The Son of Man (1964), Golconda (1953) or This is not a Pipe (1929)

Although they are not the only pieces that the world in general and fashion in particular have used as inspiration to create collections and even fashion editorials. The most famous tribute came from Opening Ceremony last May by Vans, Birkenstock and Manolo Blahnik.

The temple of fashion based in New York, Los Angeles, London and Hong Kong founded by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim (which in turn are also creative directors of Kenzo) went on sale a capsule collection that you can still buy online.

Magritte's oil on canvases: The Castle of the Pyrenees, 1959; or Attempting the Impossible, 1928;...are just some of the hundreds of works that inspire fashion editorials:

The sky with clouds, the bowler hat, men back, frames, crescents, umbrella ... are just some of the objects introduced in Magritte's painting. Our favorite shoot comes from the fashion photographer Fernando Maselli:

And finally, the catwalk! The creative show has been inspired by Magritte too. We find him in designers like Viktor & Rolf, Moschino, Mary Katrantzou, Maison Martin Margiela and Comme des Garçons:
